Frequently asked questions
Is the Trek Marlin or Giant Talon better for beginners?
Both are excellent first hardtails and very closely matched. The Marlin has a slightly wider dealer network; the Talon is often a touch keener on price. Buy whichever fits you best and comes at the better price.
Are these proper mountain bikes?
They are entry-level hardtails, ideal for trails, fitness and getting started, and the higher trims handle UK trail centres happily. For rough, technical descents you would step up to a longer-travel bike later.
What should I check buying one used?
Check the fork works smoothly, the frame is crack-free at the welds, and the drivetrain is not worn out. Both are common, so used examples are easy to find; run the frame number through a stolen-bike check before paying.
