Frequently asked questions
Is the Rockhopper or Marlin better for beginners?
Both are excellent first hardtails and very closely matched on price and spec. The Rockhopper offers a particularly wide size range; the Marlin has a slightly broader dealer network. Buy whichever fits you best at the better price.
Are these good enough for real trails?
Yes, for blue and red UK trail-centre routes and general off-road, especially the higher trims with better forks and a dropper. For rough, technical descents you would step up to a longer-travel bike later.
What should I check used?
Check the fork moves smoothly, the frame is crack-free at the welds, and the drivetrain is not worn out. Both are extremely common used; run the frame number through a stolen-bike check before paying.
