Nationwide Bike Delivery Explained

How Cyclesite ships bikes anywhere in the UK. Our specialist courier, what is included, timing, damage protection, and what to do if anything goes wrong in transit.

Last updated 22 April 2026

Bikes ship via our courier partner, fully insured and tracked. The seller boxes the bike (or pays for the packaging bundle), the courier collects, and you receive it at your door. Standard bike from £42.99, packaging bundle £69.99, e-bikes are collection only.

How Nationwide Bike Delivery Works

Shipping a bike across the UK is not the same as shipping a parcel. Bikes are large, fragile in specific ways, and vulnerable to the kind of handling that regular couriers think is normal. Cyclesite works with a UK bike-specialist courier, Paisley Freight, to handle every non-electric shipment. Electric bikes are collection-only because UK couriers will not carry lithium-ion batteries for private sellers.

The Three Part Process

Step one: sale finalised. You pay through the platform, the funds sit in escrow, and Cyclesite books the collection with Paisley Freight. Sellers do not handle the courier booking themselves.

Step two: collection. Paisley Freight arrives at the seller's address within 1 to 3 working days of the sale being confirmed. If the seller picked "Paisley supplies packaging" at listing time, Paisley delivers a bike box, bubble wrap and tape first and collects once it is packed.

Step three: delivery. Next working day on most UK mainland routes. You are notified the day before with a delivery window. Buyer Protection's 48-hour inspection window starts the moment delivery is recorded.

Shipping Partner

Paisley Freight. A UK bike-specialist courier. Two service tiers chosen by the seller at listing time:

  • You supply the bike box, Paisley collects.
  • Paisley supplies a bike box, bubble wrap and tape, delivered to the seller first, a packaged tier, useful if the seller does not already have a bike box.

Both tiers include standard liability cover with paid upgrades available. The exact shipping cost for a specific listing is quoted live on the order summary at checkout. Paisley Freight's envelope limits are 30kg total weight, 160cm length, and combined width plus height of 120cm.

Electric bikes are collection-only. No UK courier that private sellers can practically use will carry lithium-ion batteries, Paisley Freight explicitly prohibits them on their restricted-items list.

What Is Included in the Delivery Fee

The delivery fee at checkout covers:

  • Collection from the seller.
  • Packing (where needed).
  • Insurance against courier damage up to the sale value.
  • Delivery to your chosen UK address.
  • Support coordination through the whole process.

It does not cover:

  • Reassembly at your end (most bikes arrive partially dismantled).
  • Bike shop handover if you want one (add at checkout).
  • Weekend or timed delivery windows (available for a surcharge).
  • Deliveries to addresses outside the UK.

Timing

Most mainland UK shipments complete within three to five working days from collection. Some routes are faster, for example London to the Home Counties often completes next working day. Some are slower, for example the Western Isles or remote Scottish Highlands add one to two days.

Delivery timing starts from collection, not from payment. A rough guide:

  • Day 0: Sale confirmed and paid.
  • Day 1 to 2: Courier collects from the seller.
  • Day 3 to 5: Bike arrives at your address.
  • Day 5 to 7: Buyer Protection window runs (48 hours from confirmed delivery).
  • Day 7 plus: Funds release to the seller, sale complete.

Track the shipment through your order page. Every status change triggers an email or push notification.

If Something Goes Wrong in Transit

Damage claims are rare with specialist bike couriers but they happen. If your bike arrives damaged:

1. Photograph the box or bike before you unpack further if you can see damage from the outside. 2. Photograph any damage to the bike itself before assembly. 3. Raise a dispute through the order page within 48 hours of delivery. 4. Do not reassemble or try to ride the bike. 5. Wait for support to confirm next steps.

Cyclesite arranges return collection at no cost to you and handles the damage claim with the courier. If the damage is verified, you receive a full refund to your original payment method. If the damage is minor and the seller offers a partial refund to cover repair, you can accept it and keep the bike.

Deliveries Outside Mainland UK

  • Northern Ireland: Standard service, one to two days longer than mainland.
  • Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Channel Islands: Available, small surcharge, two to three days longer.
  • Scottish Highlands and Islands: Available, small surcharge for remote postcodes, two to five days longer.
  • Outside the UK: Not supported. Cyclesite is a UK only platform.

Collection in Person

On some listings the seller offers in person collection as an alternative to delivery. The listing shows this on the delivery step. You arrange a pickup directly with the seller through the messaging system and then confirm delivery through the order page once you have the bike.

Buyer Protection still applies on collection if you pay through the platform. It does not apply if you pay outside the platform by cash or bank transfer on the doorstep. The Cyclesite fee structure is the same for collection and delivery, only the shipping fee drops off.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cyclesite deliver bikes anywhere in the UK?

Yes, anywhere on the UK mainland and to most of Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Some remote island destinations have longer lead times and a small surcharge added at checkout. The seller does not handle the shipping themselves, we book a specialist bike courier and coordinate the collection and delivery.

Who actually delivers the bike?

Paisley Freight, a UK bike-specialist courier. They collect the packed bike from the seller's door and deliver it to the buyer next working day on most UK mainland routes. Paisley is not a parcel firm you would use for normal post, their service is built specifically around bikes, with standard liability cover included and paid upgrades available.

How long does bike delivery take in the UK?

Next working day on most UK mainland routes once Paisley Freight has collected the bike from the seller. Friday collections deliver on the following Monday. The Scottish Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man are off the next-day network and may take 3 to 5 additional working days. Delivery timing starts from the moment the courier has the bike in hand, not from the moment you pay.

What happens if the bike is damaged in transit?

Every shipment is insured against courier damage as part of Buyer Protection. If the bike arrives damaged, take photos immediately (before assembly if possible), raise a dispute through the order page within 48 hours of delivery, and do not reassemble or try to ride the bike. Support arranges return collection at no cost and handles the damage claim with the courier on your behalf.

Can I collect the bike in person instead of having it delivered?

Yes, if the seller agrees. Some listings offer collection only, some offer both options, and some require delivery. Collection is free, you pay only the sale price. Buyer Protection still applies if you pay through the platform, but you forfeit it if you pay cash on the doorstep outside the Cyclesite flow.

Do I have to reassemble the bike when it arrives?

Yes. Paisley Freight ships bikes in a structured cardboard box with the pedals, front wheel, bars and saddle partially dismantled for safe transport. Reassembly takes 10 to 20 minutes and requires basic hex keys. If you are not confident reassembling it, your local bike shop will charge £20 to £40 to do it properly. Electric bikes are collection-only on Cyclesite so this does not apply to e-bike purchases.
