Buying a Bike From Anywhere in the UK
Cyclesite is a UK-wide marketplace, your next bike might be 10 miles away or 400 miles away. Buyer Protection is designed specifically for buying from a distance: you pay through the platform, the courier handles collection and delivery, and you have 48 hours after arrival to confirm the bike is as described.
Before You Buy at a Distance
- Read the listing carefully. Zoom into every photo. If a detail you care about is not shown, message the seller and ask for more shots.
- Ask for a video. A short walk-around video of the bike is standard practice on higher-value purchases. Sellers who refuse are a red flag.
- Check the condition rating against the evidence. Excellent should show only light cosmetic wear. Good should not show structural damage. If the rating and photos disagree, the listing is wrong.
- Verify the frame number. Every listing has been automatically checked, but you can verify independently at UK stolen-bike databases.
- Check the seller's profile. How long have they been on Cyclesite? Any previous sales? A new seller is not necessarily a problem, but established sellers with good ratings are lower risk.
Paying and Receiving a Distant Purchase
1. Pay through Cyclesite at checkout with Buyer Protection included. Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna or Clearpay. 2. Our courier contacts the seller to schedule collection, typically within 1 to 3 working days. 3. Bike is collected and shipped. Transit is 3 to 7 working days for most of the UK. 4. You receive the bike with live tracking on the day of delivery. 5. 48-hour inspection window. Unpack, inspect, test ride. Compare against the listing. 6. Confirm or raise a dispute. If everything is fine, do nothing, the sale completes after 48 hours. If not, click Report an issue on your order page.
What Buyer Protection Covers on a Distant Purchase
- Bike not matching the listing's condition rating
- Wrong model, year, size, or components
- Undisclosed damage or faults
- Lost or damaged in transit
- Seller failing to ship on time
See [Buyer Protection](/help/buying/buyer-protection) for full detail.
What It Costs
- Shipping, quoted live on the order summary at checkout, calculated by our courier partner Paisley Freight from the bike's dimensions and the collection and delivery postcodes. Electric bikes are collection-only. See [delivery options](/help/buying/delivery-options).
- Buyer Protection, 3.5% of the sale price. Optional, shown at checkout.
Tips for Buying at a Distance
- Budget for a post-purchase service. Any used bike benefits from a once-over by a local shop after transit, typically £50 to £100 for a basic service.
- Keep the original listing as a reference. Save a copy of the photos and description, if anything changes on the live listing after you buy, you are still covered by what you paid for.
- Test ride within the 48-hour window. Do not leave it until day 3 or later, your Buyer Protection window will have closed.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to buy a bike from a seller in another part of the UK?
Yes, if you use Buyer Protection. Your payment is held in escrow, the courier collects from the seller and delivers to you, and you have 48 hours after delivery to inspect the bike and raise any issues. If the bike is not as described, you get a full refund at no cost.
Do I need to travel to see a bike before buying?
No, that is what Buyer Protection is for. You can buy any eligible bike on Cyclesite without seeing it in person first, and return it within 48 hours of delivery if it does not match the listing.
