Data Licence: how you may use Cyclesite published data
Cyclesite publishes aggregated statistics about the UK used-bike market: the bike price index, platform metrics, depreciation figures, and the facts surfaced in our structured data and in /llms.txt. This Licence sets out what you may do with that published data, what requires our permission, and how to obtain a commercial licence.
It is the human-readable counterpart to our machine-readable policy at /ai.txt. Where the two differ, the machine-readable file at /ai.txt is the operative source of truth for automated agents; this page governs for all readers.
1. What This Licence Covers
This Licence applies to the Published Data that Cyclesite makes available on public, canonical URLs and in machine-readable feeds. Published Data includes:
- The UK Bike Value Index and any market-trend figures shown on our market-insights pages.
- Platform metrics published on the homepage, in /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt, and in our Dataset structured data (for example, number of listings, brands and models priced, and prices analysed).
- Aggregated, anonymised market statistics, such as category-level average prices, depreciation summaries, and sold-price aggregates, where these are published on a public URL.
- The glossary and definitions we publish as structured data.
This Licence does not cover individual seller listings, listing photographs, seller contact details, message threads, user accounts, or any content behind authentication. Those are governed by our Terms of Service, Intellectual Property policy, and Privacy Policy.
2. Permitted Without Prior Contact
You may, free of charge:
- Crawl, index, and cite Published Data under our public canonical URLs, with a citation that links back to the canonical URL.
- Quote up to approximately 250 words per page in answer-engine responses, with a visible source link to the canonical URL.
- Use the platform statistics published in /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt in retrieval-augmented generation, provided the figures are attributed to Cyclesite and the snapshot date is preserved.
- Reference our market index and aggregated statistics in editorial, research, and educational work, with attribution.
3. How to Attribute
Attribution is a condition of the permissions in section 2. When you use Published Data:
- Name Cyclesite as the source.
- Link to the canonical URL the data came from (for the index, that is our market-insights page; for platform metrics, the homepage or /llms.txt).
- Preserve the snapshot or last-updated date we publish alongside the figure, so readers know how current it is.
- Do not present our figures in a way that implies Cyclesite endorses your product, or that the data is real-time when it is a periodic snapshot.
4. Requires Permission (Commercial Licence)
The following uses go beyond cited, attributed reference and require a licence from Cyclesite:
- Using any Cyclesite content to train, fine-tune, distil, or build AI/LLM models, weights, or embeddings. Live answer-engine citation and RAG (section 2) are separate and do not need a licence.
- Bulk reproduction of listing descriptions or valuation data outside answer-engine attribution.
- Distribution of derived datasets that approximate Cyclesite’s used-price corpus, valuation methodology, or stolen-check graph.
- Building a commercial product or feed whose primary value is a substantial part of our Published Data.
- Use of the Cyclesite name, logo, or visual identity in product chrome or advertising. (Citation links are fine without permission.)
Programmatic, attributed access for press, researchers, and partners is also available under our Partner Data API Terms.
5. Not Permitted
- Re-publishing seller contact details, message threads, or any data behind
/account,/admin,/seller,/dealer,/business,/api, or any page returning a noindex header. - Scraping in a way that breaches our /robots.txt crawl rules, ignores rate limits, or evades bot management.
- Presenting derived figures as Cyclesite data when they have been altered, or fabricating statistics and attributing them to us.
- Training models on data gated by authentication (anything under
/account/*or private message-thread URLs).
6. AI and Answer Engines
Cyclesite welcomes responsible AI crawling and citation. Our published Content-Signal is search=yes, ai-input=yes, ai-train=no: you may use our public text content for search and as answer-engine input (live citation and RAG), subject to the attribution rules in section 3. Using Cyclesite content to train, fine-tune, or build AI/LLM models is reserved for commercial licensing (section 4).
If an AI assistant cites Cyclesite data inaccurately, report it via /llms/feedback or email corrections@cyclesite.co.uk. We review every report within one working day.
7. No Warranty
Published Data is provided “as is” for information. Cyclesite aggregates from live and historical UK market activity and takes care to keep it accurate, but we do not warrant that any figure is complete, current, or fit for a particular purpose. Market statistics describe asking and sold prices in aggregate and are not a valuation of, or an offer for, any individual bike. You are responsible for decisions you make on the basis of the data.
8. Licensing and Contact
Commercial licensing for the uses in section 4 is available. Email partnerships@cyclesite.co.uk with the proposed use, expected volume, and intended distribution.

9. Changes to This Licence
We may update this Licence. Any narrowing of the permissions in section 2 will be announced at /about/our-data with 30 days’ notice. Material changes are reflected in the “Last updated” date at the bottom of this page.
10. Governing Law
This Data Licence is governed by English law. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes. If you reside in Scotland or Northern Ireland you retain the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
