Yes, Cyclescheme, Bike2Work and Green Commute Initiative are all supported. Voucher redemption is currently manual via support; we are working on automated voucher checkout for 2026.
Cycle to Work on Cyclesite
Cyclesite supports the Cycle to Work scheme for used bikes from eligible business sellers. The process is slightly different to buying a new bike at a high-street retailer, you buy the bike on the platform first, then submit your voucher to us for redemption.
Eligible Schemes
We currently accept vouchers from:
- Cyclescheme
- Bike2Work
- Green Commute Initiative
Check the Cycle to Work filter on search for the current list, we add new providers as they onboard.
Which Bikes Are Eligible
Look for the Cycle to Work Eligible badge on a listing. Eligibility depends on:
- Seller status, only VAT-registered business sellers can participate. HMRC requires a VAT invoice, which private sellers cannot issue.
- Bike type, standard pedal bikes and most e-bikes are covered by all three schemes. Cargo bikes depend on the individual scheme rules.
- Price, within your employer's scheme limit. Most schemes cap at £1,000 to £3,000 depending on the provider and your employer's arrangement.
How to Redeem a Voucher
1. Find an eligible bike. Use the Cycle to Work filter on search, or look for the badge on individual listings. 2. Contact Cyclesite support first. Email help@cyclesite.co.uk with the listing URL and your scheme provider. We confirm eligibility and reserve the bike so it cannot be bought by someone else while you arrange the voucher. 3. Request the voucher from your scheme provider. This is done through your employer's HR team or directly with the scheme provider, depending on how your workplace has set things up. 4. Send us the voucher code. Once approved, forward the voucher details to support. We validate them with the provider before completing the sale. 5. Sale completes. We finalise the transaction, the seller prepares the bike, and shipping or collection is arranged as normal.
Why Is Voucher Redemption Manual?
Voucher validation happens in our support team rather than at checkout because we need to confirm the code with the scheme provider before the sale completes. This protects both buyer and seller, it prevents invalid or duplicate vouchers being used and makes sure the VAT invoice is correctly issued. Automating this is on our roadmap.
Tax Savings
You save the income tax and National Insurance on the bike's price, typically 32% for basic-rate taxpayers (20% income tax + 12% NI) and around 42% for higher-rate taxpayers. The Cycle to Work Eligible badge on each listing shows an estimate for the basic rate.
Actual savings depend on:
- Your tax band (basic, higher, additional)
- Your employer's specific scheme terms
- The length of the hire agreement
- Any end-of-hire ownership fee your scheme charges
Your scheme provider will confirm exact figures before you accept the voucher.
Can I Use Buyer Protection With a Voucher Purchase?
Yes. Cycle to Work purchases go through the same Buyer Protection process as any other sale, 48-hour inspection window, full refund if the bike is not as described, transit insurance included. If a voucher purchase is refunded during the inspection window, the voucher is reinstated by the provider.
