Account → Privacy → Delete account. We anonymise your data within 30 days of confirmation, except where transaction history must be retained for tax compliance (up to 6 years).

Deleting your Cyclesite account

You can close your account yourself from the Privacy page. Deletion is permanent, but there is a 30-day grace period during which you can change your mind.

Before you delete

A few things to handle first:

  • Live listings. Listings are paused automatically on deletion, but it is tidier to remove them yourself from Account, Listings.
  • Open orders. If a purchase or sale is still in progress, complete or cancel it first. Accounts with open orders cannot be deleted.
  • Seller balance. Any pending seller payouts settle to your connected Stripe account before deletion.
  • Your data. If you want a copy of what we hold, request it from Account, Privacy before you delete. The download is only available while the account exists.

Delete your account

1. Go to Account, Privacy. 2. Choose Delete my account. 3. Enter your password to confirm. 4. Optionally tell us why, feedback helps us improve. 5. Submit. The account enters a 30-day cooling-off period.

Changing your mind

Within the 30-day window, sign in and choose Cancel deletion from the same page. The account is restored in full, listings, messages, history, as if you never started the process.

After 30 days

Once the grace period ends:

  • Your profile, username, display name and photo are removed.
  • Messages you sent stay in the recipient inbox so the conversation makes sense, but without your name.
  • Reviews you wrote are anonymised.
  • Saved bikes, searches, price alerts and co-rider lists are deleted.
  • Listings you created are paused and removed from search and the sitemap.

What is kept, and why

We are required by HMRC to keep transaction records, sale date, amount and any VAT information, for seven years. These records are anonymised so your personal details are not linked, and they are not visible to other users. After seven years they are deleted in full.

Stripe keeps its own records of payments, required by payment-industry rules. Those records are held by Stripe, not Cyclesite, and are subject to their retention policy.

Can I come back?

Yes. You can open a new account with the same or a different email at any time. The old account's data cannot be restored once the 30 days have passed.

Frequently asked questions

Is deletion instant?

No. There is a 30-day cooling-off period. Sign in within that window and choose Cancel deletion to restore the account in full. After 30 days the action is permanent.

Can I recover the account after the grace period?

No. Once the 30 days have passed, the deletion is permanent and the data cannot be restored. You can always sign up again with the same or a different email.

What happens to my sale history?

Transaction records are retained for seven years to meet HMRC requirements. They are anonymised, no name, email or address attached, and are not visible to other users. After seven years they are deleted in full.

Will my messages disappear?

Messages you sent remain in the recipient inbox for continuity, but without your name or profile. Reviews you have written are anonymised the same way.

Can I delete my account if I have a live sale or purchase?

No. Complete or cancel any in-progress orders first. Accounts with open orders cannot be deleted.
