What is Cyclesite and how does it work?

Cyclesite is a UK marketplace for buying and selling used bikes. Sellers photograph the bike's serial number when listing, and we check it against stolen bike databases before it goes live. Buyers browse for free, message sellers, and pay through Stripe with escrow protection. Listing fees start from £10.99.

Is it safe to buy a second-hand bike on Cyclesite?

Yes. The serial number photo that sellers provide when listing does two things: it proves the seller physically has the bike, and it lets us check the serial against stolen bike databases. If the bike comes back as reported stolen, the listing is blocked. Payments go through Stripe with escrow, so your money is held until you confirm you're happy. How much does it cost to sell a bike?

Listing fees start from £10.99 for a standard listing. Auction listings may include additional fees. There are no hidden charges, and you can see the full pricing breakdown on our pricing page before you list.

What bikes can I find on Cyclesite?

Everything from road bikes and mountain bikes to electric bikes, gravel bikes, hybrids, kids' bikes, and folding bikes. You'll find popular brands like Specialized, Trek, Giant, Canyon, Cannondale, and Brompton, plus smaller and boutique brands. Listings cover the whole of the UK, with bikes available in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Bristol, and hundreds of other towns and cities.

How are payments handled?

Secure payments are available through Stripe. When you choose to pay through the platform, your money can be held in escrow until you've confirmed the bike matches the listing. Buyers and sellers can also arrange payment directly if they prefer.

Important: Cyclesite is a Classified Advertisement Platform

We provide advertising space to connect buyers and sellers. Cyclesite:

Is NOT party to any sale contract between buyer and seller — the contract for the bike is directly between you and the buyer
Does NOT take custody of funds. Where buyers opt into Buyer Protection at checkout, payments are held in escrow by Stripe under the Payment Services Regulations commercial-agent exclusion — Cyclesite instructs release on delivery confirmation or dispute outcome but never takes custody of your money.
Does NOT take possession of, store, or deliver bikes
Does NOT provide financing or insurance

Seller Requirements

Must be 18 years or older
Valid UK contact details (email and phone number)
Accurate, truthful product descriptions and genuine photos
Full disclosure of bike condition, defects, and history
Proof of ownership and legal right to sell
Compliance with Consumer Rights Act 2015 (if selling as a business)
Responsive communication with buyers (reply within 24-48 hours)
Verification for dealers selling high-value bikes (£10,000+)

Listing Standards

Allowed

• Complete bikes in working condition
• Bike frames and forks
• Bike components and parts
• Cycling accessories
• Refurbished bikes with disclosure

Prohibited (Online Safety Act 2023 & UK Law)

• Stolen bikes or bikes without proof of ownership
• Counterfeit or fake branded products
• Bikes with active safety recalls (unless disclosed)
• Items without frame serial numbers
• Listings with false, misleading, or deceptive information
• Hate speech, harassment, or abusive content
• Content promoting violence or illegal activity
• Money laundering or fraud schemes

Violations may be reported to law enforcement. Report suspicious listings using our Report Abuse form.

Advertising Fees & Cancellation Rights

Current Pricing:

Private seller listings are charged on a tiered basis. The exact fee for your listing is shown to you before you publish it during the listing flow, which is the authoritative source in the event of any difference from the summary below. At the time of writing:

Basic: from £10.99 per listing (30 days)
Standard: higher tier with extended duration and enhanced visibility (see pricing page for current rate)
Premium: top tier with homepage placement and featured badge (see pricing page for current rate)

Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 - 14-Day Cancellation:

• You have 14 days to cancel paid advertising from purchase date
• If you request immediate activation, you waive cancellation rights
• Email support@cyclesite.co.uk to cancel
• Refunds processed within 14 days of valid cancellation

Advertising Standards

All listings must comply with UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) rules:

Must be legal, decent, honest, and truthful
Must not be misleading or exaggerate features
Pricing must be transparent (include all mandatory fees)
Claims must be substantiated with evidence
Photos must accurately represent the actual item

Violations and Enforcement

Violations of this policy may result in:

First Offense: Warning and listing removal
Repeat Offenses: Account suspension (7-30 days)
Serious Violations: Permanent ban and report to authorities

Serious violations (stolen goods, fraud, illegal content) will be reported to law enforcement in compliance with the Online Safety Act 2023 and UK law.

Appeals: If you believe your account was suspended in error, contact support@cyclesite.co.uk within 14 days.

Money Laundering Prevention

For bikes valued at £10,000 or more, sellers may be required to provide:

Government-issued ID verification
Proof of ownership (original purchase receipt)
Explanation of source of funds (if requested)

This is required under UK Money Laundering Regulations 2017, even though Cyclesite does not handle payments.
