Road bikes are the biggest category in the UK used bike market, and prices vary enormously. A 2020 Specialized Allez in good condition and a 2020 Specialized Tarmac in good condition occupy completely different price brackets, even though they're both "used Specialized road bikes."
Here's what to expect in 2026.
Entry-Level Road Bikes (Originally £500-1,000)
These are bikes like the Specialized Allez, Trek Domane AL, Giant Contend, Cannondale CAAD Optimo, and Boardman SLR.

Think Canyon Aeroad CF SLX, Specialized Tarmac SL7, Trek Madone, Cervelo S5, Factor O2.

- Groupset generation, Shimano 12-speed commands a premium over 11-speed
- Frame material, Carbon > Aluminium > Steel (for road bikes)
- Condition, Excellent vs. good is typically a 15-20% price difference
- Brand reputation, Specialized, Trek, and Canyon hold value best
- Wheel upgrades, Carbon wheels can add £200-500 to resale value
- Age, Depreciation curve flattens after year 3
