Specialized Allez market data, updated as new sales are recorded
The Allez is where most Specialized road cyclists start. It is an aluminium road bike that punches well above its price point, and it has introduced more people to road cycling than probably any other Specialized model. Walk into a bike shop asking for your first proper road bike and someone will point you at an Allez. They are right to.
What makes the Allez special is that Specialized applies the same geometry and design thinking from the Tarmac to a more affordable aluminium frame. The result is a bike that actually handles like a race bike, not a sluggish commuter with drop bars bolted on. The E5 alloy frame is stiff, light for the money, and has been refined over many years.
On the used market, Allez models are incredibly common and that means prices are reasonable. They also make brilliant winter training bikes, commuters, or first road bikes. Many riders keep an Allez even after upgrading to carbon because it is so useful as a second bike.
For an aluminium bike, the Allez rides surprisingly well. The frame is responsive and sharp when you accelerate, and the handling is confidence inspiring. It feels like a smaller, slightly stiffer version of the Tarmac which is exactly what it should be.
The ride quality is firm though. Aluminium does not absorb vibration like carbon, and you will feel rough roads, especially on longer rides. Good tyres and correct tyre pressure make a big difference. Run 28mm tyres at sensible pressures and the Allez transforms from buzzy to perfectly pleasant for rides up to about 60 miles.
New road cyclists who want a proper bike without carbon prices. Experienced riders looking for a winter trainer or commuter. Crit racers who want a bike they are not afraid to crash. Budget conscious riders who care about how a bike rides, not how much it costs.
The current E5 frame has been excellent from 2018 onwards. The Allez Sprint got a significant update in 2018 with the aero tube shaping, and those bikes are strong used buys. For a basic Allez, any model from 2019 onwards with disc brakes is a solid choice. Pre-2018 models are perfectly rideable but the frame design is less refined.
