Specialized Roubaix market data, updated as new sales are recorded
The Roubaix is Specialized's endurance road bike, built for riders who want to go long without getting beaten up. Named after the Paris-Roubaix cobbled classic, it is designed to soak up rough roads while still feeling fast and responsive. It sits alongside the Tarmac in the Specialized range but trades outright stiffness for all day comfort.
The standout feature is Future Shock, a small suspension cartridge hidden in the headset that absorbs vibration before it reaches your hands. It sounds like a gimmick until you ride one over a potholed B-road in February. Then it makes perfect sense. The Roubaix has been through several generations and the used market is full of well maintained examples from riders upgrading or changing discipline.
As a used buy, the Roubaix makes enormous sense. Endurance bikes tend to be looked after better than race bikes because their owners ride long and steady rather than hammering them in crits. Prices are reasonable and you get a lot of bike for the money.
Smooth. That is the word every Roubaix owner uses. The Future Shock system genuinely works and it takes the sting out of rough tarmac without making the bike feel vague or spongy. The geometry puts you in a slightly more upright position than the Tarmac, which your back and neck will thank you for after four or five hours in the saddle.
It still rides like a proper road bike though. This is not a hybrid pretending to be sporty. The Roubaix handles well in group rides, descends confidently, and climbs respectably. It just does all of that while being kinder to your body. On smooth roads the suspension is barely noticeable. On rough roads it is a revelation.
Sportive riders, audax enthusiasts, and anyone who regularly rides over 60 miles. If your local roads are rubbish (and let's be honest, most UK roads are), the Roubaix makes long rides significantly more pleasant. Also brilliant for older riders or anyone coming back from a back or neck injury who still wants performance.
The current generation Roubaix (2020 onwards) with Future Shock 2.0 is the one to get if budget allows. The previous generation (2017 to 2019) with the original Future Shock is still excellent and significantly cheaper on the used market. Avoid pre-2017 models that do not have Future Shock as you lose the bike's biggest advantage. A 2020 or 2021 Expert is the smart money buy right now.
