Scott Spark market data, updated as new sales are recorded
The Spark is Scott's cross country and short travel trail mountain bike. It bridges the gap between XC racing and trail riding with 120mm of travel that pedals efficiently but handles rough ground well. Scott has a strong heritage in XC racing and the Spark has been ridden to World Cup victories by Nino Schurter, arguably the greatest XC racer ever.
The Spark uses Scott's TwinLoc suspension system, which lets you toggle between three suspension modes from a single bar mounted lever: locked out for climbing, traction control for rough climbs, and fully open for descending. It is genuinely useful in UK conditions where you constantly switch between fireroad climbs and singletrack descents.
With 6 used listings tracked at an average price around £4,110, the Spark is less common on the used market than trail bikes. When they do appear, most sit between £2,380 and £2,850.
The Spark is the most versatile short travel mountain bike you can ride. In lock out mode, it climbs like a hardtail, efficient and direct. In open mode, it descends with surprising confidence for 120mm of travel. The TwinLoc system makes switching between modes effortless, which means you actually use it rather than leaving it in one setting all day.
On UK trails, the Spark handles blues and reds comfortably. It is fast on fireroads, composed on rocky descents, and nimble on tight singletrack. It is not a trail bike though. Technical black runs and big drops exceed its travel limit. The Spark is happiest being ridden fast on flowing, technical trails where pedalling efficiency matters as much as descending ability.
XC racers who want a bit more capability than a pure race bike. Fast trail riders who prioritise climbing and efficiency. Marathon and multi day event riders. Riders who enjoy long, varied loops mixing fireroads and singletrack. Anyone who values versatility and wants one mountain bike that works everywhere except the gnarliest terrain.
The 2022 redesign brought updated geometry, improved suspension kinematics, and better tyre clearance. The 2019 to 2021 Spark is still excellent for XC use but the geometry is slightly dated for trail riding. For the best value, a 2022 RC or 900 model is the one to target.
