Canyon Ultimate market data, updated as new sales are recorded
The Ultimate is Canyon's lightweight climbing bike and one of the best value high performance road frames you can buy. Because Canyon sells direct from their factory in Koblenz, Germany, you get a bike that would cost significantly more from a traditional brand with dealer markups. That value proposition has made the Ultimate hugely popular with UK club riders and racers.
The frame itself is seriously impressive. The top end CFR version has won WorldTour stages, and even the more affordable CF SL uses the same geometry and similar tube profiles. Canyon has steadily refined the Ultimate over several generations, and the current version balances low weight with enough aerodynamic shaping to stay competitive on flat roads too.
On the used market, Ultimates are common because Canyon sells a lot of them. The direct to consumer model means there is no dealer to handle trade ins, so riders sell privately. This works in your favour as a buyer. Prices are keen and condition is often excellent.
Light, sharp, and responsive. The Ultimate feels quick under you, darting up climbs and responding instantly to changes in pace. The frame stiffness is impressive for the weight, and the handling is precise without being twitchy. It corners well and holds its line through fast descents.
The ride quality is on the firm side. Canyon frames tend to be stiff and efficient rather than forgiving, so rough UK roads will make themselves known. Good tyres at sensible pressures help a lot. The integrated cockpit on newer models looks clean but limits fit adjustments, so make sure the size is right before buying.
Climbing focused road riders and racers who want maximum performance per pound spent. Club riders doing hilly sportives. Riders who are happy buying direct and doing basic assembly themselves. If you want a WorldTour level frame at a fraction of the usual price, the Ultimate delivers.
The fourth generation Ultimate (2021 onwards) is the current design with improved aerodynamics and the integrated cockpit. These are excellent bikes. The third generation (2018 to 2020) is slightly heavier but uses a more conventional stem and bar setup that many riders actually prefer for adjustability. For the best value, look at a 2021 or 2022 CF SL 8 with Shimano Ultegra Di2.
